I’m Michael McCord, and I’m running to bring straightforward common sense back to our city hall. For too long, it has felt like getting things done in our local government is about who you know or a system of 'pay to play.' Meanwhile, our hard-earned tax dollars are wasted, expenses are increased, and city hall keeps its knee on the neck of our small businesses. That was the exact moment I knew I had to put my name on the ballot. We deserve a city hall that is accountable to the people, not insider connections. I am running to make sure our community’s voice is heard, to stop the waste, and to bring practical, honest leadership back to our local government.
When we talk about what matters to our community, it starts with the basics: keeping our neighbors safe. Right now, we aren't doing our job when it comes to maintaining our city roads. We all saw the recent, terrifying incident where a college student drove into a major sinkhole right here in our city. That is a clear wake-up call. We must prioritize road maintenance and fix our infrastructure before another dangerous accident happens. If you elect me, I will focus on making sure our streets are safe and our roads are properly maintained. Our community deserves local government that does its job and takes care of the essentials, so every driver, student, and family can get where they need to go safely.
To make our community safer, we have to start by being honest about the challenges we face right here in Savannah. We need to admit that we have a gang problem, and I am ready to do something about it. If elected, I will work directly with Sheriff Coleman to provide the funding he needs to establish a dedicated gang unit. This is about taking real, concrete action to bring down gun violence in our city and keep our neighborhoods safe. By working together and supporting our local law enforcement with the right resources, we can build a safer, stronger Savannah for all of our families.
Right now, City Hall is making it harder and harder for small businesses to open and succeed right here in Savannah. Supporting our local businesses is my top priority. Too often, hard-working owners are forced to jump through unnecessary hoops, facing delays on liquor licenses over sudden cancellations, or being told they need permits that shouldn't even exist. We need to streamline this entire process. If elected, I will fight to make City Hall a partner, not an obstacle. We must cut the red tape and make the system clear, fair, and simple so our Savannah business owners can finally get their doors open and succeed.
We have a serious flooding issue here in District 3 and across our entire city, and it is time we finally address it. But raising your water bills and adding new stormwater fees is not the answer. Hardworking folks in our community are already paying enough. If elected, I will fight to stop these extra fees and instead look at how we spend the money we already have. When our city is spending ten million dollars on a trail and millions more on a PR budget, we clearly have the resources to fix our infrastructure. We just need to prioritize. I am committed to using our existing budget to tackle this flooding crisis directly, without adding any more financial burdens to your household.
